For our road test we’ll drive the 2008 Accord EXL
V6 sedan – Honda’s flagship.
It comes equipped with a V6 engine and 5 speed
automatic transmission -- though a 5 speed manual is available.
The 3.5 liter I-VTEC V-6 engine produces 268
horsepower and features Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management system
which allows the engine to operate on fewer cylinders at low speeds
and during steady cruising to maximize fuel economy.
The EX V6 includes fog lights, dual exhaust and
chrome door handles.
A double wishbone front suspension provides crisp
handling and a smooth ride. The engineering behind the double
wishbone system means the suspension utilizes both upper and lower
control links, which provide for more precise steering.
An independent rear suspension combined with front
and rear stabilizer bars help smooth out bumps in the road while
providing precise handling in turns and emergency maneuvers.
A variable gear ratio rack and pinion steering
system allows drivers to better maintain control; at highway speeds,
while giving quicker steering response at low speeds and in sharp
cornering and parking.
Safety
The 2008 Accord EX V6 provides advanced safety
system for both driver and passengers.
All seats front and rear have 3 point seat belts,
and the front seat belts have an automatic tensioning system and
adjustable anchors.
Side curtain airbags protect the driver and
passengers in the event of a side-impact collision.
Honda engineers have also developed their ACE body
structure – ACE stands for Advanced Compatibility Engineering –
which builds a roll cage into the passenger cabin while putting
front and rear crumple zones in place to absorb the energy of an
impact instead of transferring it to the occupants.
Door beams help protect the people inside the car
during a side impact crash.
Traction control helps to keep the car under
control when accelerating on wet or icy roads. The way it works is
that if the driver applies too much gas, say when accelerating from
a stop sign on a wet road, traction control will kick in to prevent
the front wheels from slipping and losing control.
Anti-lock brakes help stop the car more quickly in
a panic stop while maintaining steering control.
An emergency trunk opener comes in handy for those
Mafia stool pigeons who need to make a last minute escape.
Sit down in the driver’s seat and you’ll find an 8
way adjustable power seat with power lumbar support. Power windows
with auto up and down, power door locks and cruise control.
The steering column telescopes in and out, plus
adjusts up and down, to allow you to find that perfect steering
position.
Tune the sound system or set the cruise control
with a flip of your thumb. The controls are right there on the
steering wheel.
If you like it cooler, but your passenger likes it
warmer you can flip on the dual zone automatic climate control and
make everyone happy.
Fire up your iPod the Accord has a jack that
allows you to plug it right into the dash, or drop a CD into the 6
disc changer and enjoy the crisp, clear sound of the 160 watt audio
system with 6 speakers.
Speed sensitive volume control turns the sound
down when you slow to a stop, and automatically turns it up again at
highway speeds when the road noise is greater.
With one touch of a button you can open the power
moonroof and let the outside in, or just tilt it for a breath of
fresh air.
All 2008 Accord EX sedans come equipped with fog
lights increase visibility during foul weather.
Heated mirrors allow you to quickly remove fog or
frost from the outside mirrors.
